Here at Hepburn Investment we take corporate responsibility very seriously, and did so long before it was fashionable, as it was a part of our culture from the very inception of the company. Our founding fathers treated efficiency like a religion. Not just for reasons of profit, but because they believe that wasting the planets finite resources is unethical. This culture of prudence and responsibility has been maintained and even expanded upon in the years since their departure. The ways that this is implemented in practice day-to-day in the workplace are as follows:
- We recycle almost all of the waste that we create. Some of this is through a colored bin commercial recycling scheme we subscribe to, but we have had to be more creative than that. Believe it or not, our organic waste gets taken to a pig farm twice a week.
- We have considered power efficiency right from the procurement stage in equipping our office, and are looking at ways of controlling ambient temperature while reducing the use of air conditioning. As we are continuously striving to make our operation as energy efficient as possible, and advances in energy efficient building has been great in the last decade, ultimately we are looking to relocate to a more efficient complex.
- We provide all of our staff with subsidized public transport passes. This encourages the team to use Hong Kong’s great public transport system for their commute. Wherever possible we conduct global business through online audio-visual systems to avoid using commercial flights.
- Our office is a virtually paperless environment
Hepburn Investment Charitable Trust
We believe in nourishing the community from which we have grown, and from its creation Hepburn Investment has engaged in various charitable activities, particularly in the areas of education, providing bursaries, and funding apprenticeships or training programs for the gifted who lack opportunity. We also encourage our employees to engage in charitable giving, both through paid charity days and a yearly gala event, and independently. To this end the Hepburn Investment charitable trust was set up in 1986, streamlining all of these activities, and providing a convenient vehicle for our employees to benefit from tax efficiencies as a result of their charitable giving.
